Opportunity

The UK construction industry loses £21 billion every year to poor quality, rework, and delays — and much of it stems not from lack of technical skill, but from gaps in behavioural competence and inadequate on-site training. Tribuco is tackling this directly, building a platform that embeds quality assurance and health & safety standards into the daily workflow of construction teams and their supply chains. The Tribuco Knowledge mobile app is the on-site face of that platform — a training and knowledge delivery tool designed to put the right content in the hands of construction workers, wherever they are on site. The existing app was built on Xamarin.Forms, a framework Microsoft had sunset, and needed to be migrated to .NET MAUI before it fell too far behind. They came to AitchSoft to make that happen.

Opportunity

Approach

We were brought in to lead the migration from Xamarin.Forms to .NET MAUI, and the engagement evolved from there. After the migration was complete, we continued as the development partner — adding new features and later taking on a full UI redesign of the mobile experience. The work was primarily led by a single senior engineer on our side, with additional support brought in for specific phases. The app targets construction workers in the field, which shaped every decision — offline capability, biometric access, fast content delivery, and a UI that works in practical on-site conditions.

Solution

1. Knowledge & Training Content Delivery The core of the app — construction workers access trade-specific training content, toolbox talks, and health & safety materials directly on their mobile device, on site, without needing to be at a desk. 2. Offline Content Access SQLite-backed local storage ensures training content remains accessible even in low or no-connectivity environments common on construction sites. 3. PDF Document Viewer In-app PDF rendering for training materials, compliance documents, and quality assurance content — no need to leave the app or download to a separate viewer. 4. QR Code Scanning ZXing-powered QR scanning for content access and verification workflows on site. 5. Push Notifications Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android and local notifications ensure workers receive timely alerts for new content, mandatory training, and compliance reminders. 6. UI Redesign A full redesign of the mobile interface — modernising the visual experience to better suit on-site usage, with cleaner navigation and improved readability in outdoor conditions. Currently being rolled out within budget constraints.

Technical Highlights

1. Xamarin.Forms → .NET MAUI Migration A full migration of an existing production app to .NET MAUI — the app ID, codebase, and all existing functionality carried across cleanly, with the new foundation enabling ongoing feature development on a supported, actively evolving framework. 2. QR-Based Geofencing Content and compliance workflows are unlocked through QR code scanning tied to physical site locations — ensuring workers access the right training and safety materials for the specific area they are working in, not just the project overall.

Impact

The migration was completed successfully, with the app running on .NET MAUI and the engagement continuing as an ongoing development partnership. New features have been added incrementally, and the UI redesign is progressing alongside the client's roadmap. Tribuco works with major construction names including Bouygues Construction, EQUANS, and Northumberland County Council — the mobile app sits at the heart of their on-site training and compliance delivery for those workforces.

AitchSoft successfully led the migration of our mobile application from Xamarin.Forms to .NET MAUI, demonstrating exceptional technical capability throughout. Their deep knowledge of both platforms was immediately evident, and they navigated the complexities of the migration with confidence. They met our tight timeline requirements and produced work that gives us confidence the app will remain functional and supported going forward. We're already discussing potential continued development work.
